The figure of the Data Protection Officer (DPO) continues to gain relevance in Latin America as a key actor to strengthen governance and compliance in the field of personal data protection. In this new comparative edition, ECIJA analyses the main differences between Chile and Guatemala regarding the regulation, designation and obligations associated with this role.


While Chile has already formally incorporated the figure of the DPO through Law No. 21.719, Guatemala does not yet have a specific regulation on personal data protection, although a draft law on the matter is currently under discussion.
