ECIJA was born in 1997 in Spain with a clear vision: to revolutionise the legal industry through innovation, technology and a global approach.

Transforming a boutique firm into a global benchmark in the legal sector is only possible with a trajectory marked by bold decisions.

Born to challenge the status quo, ECIJA emerged in 1997 as a boutique specialising in audiovisual and intellectual property law, founded by a team of lawyers with an entrepreneurial spirit. At a time when digitalisation was beginning to transform business, we understood that law had to evolve at the same pace as technological change.

From the outset, we opted for an innovative and dynamic approach, which led to rapid international expansion. Today, with a presence in18 countries and a team of more than 1,400 professionals, we have established ourselves as one of the most influential firms in the sector, doubling our turnover in recent years and advising leading global companies.

Our growth has been driven by strategic milestones that have redefined the future of law and the way law firms make an impact:

  • We pioneered advice on digital law and new technologies, anticipating the legal challenges of the digital economy era.
  • We led the expansion in Latin America, integrating leading firms in countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico, establishing a unique platform for legal services in the region and becoming the Spanish firm with the largest presence in the region.
  • We have been recognised in the main legal rankings and awarded for our excellence, innovative capacity and commitment to diversity and sustainability.
  • In 2023, we established a strategic alliance with Taylor Wessing, reinforcing our global presence and consolidating our position as a benchmark in legal advice to technology companies.

Foundation of the firm as a boutique specialising in New Technologies, Audiovisual Law and Intellectual Property.
2000
Expansion of ECIJA's international reach by strengthening its international alliances in the United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany.
2009
Launch of ECIJA internationally with the opening of offices in Miami and the opening of the Barcelona office.
2017
Opening of ECIJA Valencia and ECIJA Lisbon, sixth international office, following the integration of the firm Antas da Cunha.
2018
ECIJA continues its expansion by opening new offices and expanding its practice areas, consolidating its presence in Spain, Central America and the Caribbean.
2019
ECIJA opens offices in Puerto Rico and Costa Rica and consolidates its position as the Spanish firm with the largest presence in the region.
2022
The firm takes a decisive step in its evolution with the adoption of the Verein model, strengthening its global structure.
2023
ECIJA signs a strategic agreement with Taylor Wessing and moves its corporate headquarters to Madrid's Golden Mile. Opens offices in Uruguay.
2024
ECIJA joins Alia Capital Partners to accelerate its growth, international expansion and strengthen its commitment to innovation and technology in the sector.
