Uruguay is promoting a digital wallet to simplify procedures.

The Uruguayan government announced last Tuesday the creation of an electronic wallet that will allow the concentration of documents and procedures in a single place, with the aim of speeding up procedures, reducing time and improving security,

The tool is one of the strategic projects of the Digital Strategy promoted by the Uruguayan Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic) and other government agencies.

The project has a definite timetable: in July the digital identity is expected to be launched, which will allow access to procedures without the need for other devices. In December, meanwhile, the wallet with theintegrated digital identity card will be available.

The process will be progressive, in order to advance in the digitalisation of official documents without replacing the physical formats, which will remain in force.

Uruguay is also working on the international recognition of these digital documents, in particular with Brazil, as a first step towards cross-border validation.

The implementation of the digital wallet is part of the government's Digital Strategy to modernise the state, improve accessibility to services and strengthen the relationship between citizens and public bodies.

Uruguay's sustained digital policy has positioned the country as a digital leader in the region and the importance of inter-institutional work to build a sovereign, more innovative state that improves people's quality of life.
