Women’s leadership as a driving force for change
It was in 2018 that I travelled to Puerto Varas, Chile, to take part in a Global B Meeting for the first time, There I had the opportunity to hear a presentation by Josefa Monje, a leading lawyer on issues affecting the region. I remember that one of the quotes she used stuck in my mind and made me reflect deeply: ..."Grant me to be more of a mother than mothers themselves, so that I may love and defend, as they do, that which is not the flesh of my flesh"… This verse by Gabriela Mistral, the Chilean poet, sums up the essence of the feminine energy of care: a force that sustains, protects and heals. And it is from this perspective that these reflections on female leadership—as a driving force for change and regeneration—emerge.
In a world marked by waste, social inequality, wars and environmental degradation – a world that is interconnected and in constant transformation – women’s leadership has become a fundamental pillar for driving sustainability and the development of new economies.
Women’s ability to adopt a holistic, empathetic and collaborative approach to decision-making not only strengthens organisational resilience but also fosters innovation and the implementation of responsible business strategies.
Various international studies show that companies with greater gender diversity in their management teams not only achieve better financial results but also implement sustainability strategies more effectively, promoting positive social, environmental and governance impacts.
Throughout history, many women have managed to break through the glass ceiling in their respective industries. However, it is those who use their leadership positions to bring about real social and environmental impact who truly transform society. Sustainability begins with human dignity and well-being.
In the legal sector – a complex field with rigid and conservative structures – we women have both the opportunity and the responsibility to do things differently in order to bring about transformative change. This is a truly significant challenge. “In the midst of difficulty lies opportunity,” said Albert Einstein, and how true that is.
Women’s leadership and the role of women in the legal sector are not merely a matter of equality; they represent enormous added value and a powerful tool for transformation.
The future of the legal sector demands leaders capable of combining strategic vision with human sensitivity. In this regard, women’s leadership brings a vision centred on care, cooperation and sustainability; it fosters healthy environments and work-life balance, thereby boosting innovation and team commitment.
True transformation will arise from this convergence and the complementary nature of diverse leadership styles that engage in dialogue, reinforce one another and build structures that are fairer, more innovative and geared towards the collective well-being.
The law, designed and practised from a female and transformative perspective, opens the door to a fairer world.
