The very technology that promises abundance tends to concentrate power. Platforms have demonstrated an extraordinary ability to centralise data, capital and market.

Modernity, she said, ended up reducing human beings to animal laborans, defined by their productive function. The irony is that now, when technology promises to free us from work, we may find that we have never figured out what to do with the freedom we invoke so much.
