The II Digital Meeting of the ICAM brought together experts from the legal and technological fields to analyze the governance of artificial intelligence, the protection of intangible assets, and the regulatory compliance challenges posed by the entry into force of the European Regulation on AI, with ECIJA playing a prominent role.

A key forum in light of the new European regulatory framework

The 2nd Digital Meeting of the ICAM took place at a decisive moment for the European legal and business ecosystem. With the AI Law set to be fully implemented by August 2026, alongside the entry into force of the Data Law and the growing impact of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the conference was conceived as a space for practical reflection to anticipate risks, obligations, and opportunities.

Organized by the TIC Section of the ICAM, chaired by Alejandro Touriño, the meeting received support from leading associations such as IAPP, ASCOM, DENAE, and ISACA, establishing itself as an essential event for lawyers specialized in technology and digital regulation.

The legal profession facing a structural transformation

The institutional opening was led by Mabel Klimt, Deputy Head of Technology at the ICAM, who emphasized that the emergence of artificial intelligence is not just an evolution of tools, but a profound transformation of professional legal practice. She highlighted the need to integrate legal knowledge, technological understanding, and strategic vision, always under the principles of human oversight, professional ethics, and respect for fundamental rights.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Andrés F. Ángel Posada, co-chair of the Madrid Chapter of the IAPP, and José F. Zamarriego, president of ASCOM, who focused on AI as a change factor in governance, regulatory compliance, and organizational accountability.

AI, intellectual property, and trade secrets

The first panel discussion addressed the implications of artificial intelligence concerning intellectual property, confidentiality, and trade secrets, with a special focus on generative AI. The debate highlighted the legal uncertainty surrounding the training of models, the status of AI-generated content, and the new transparency obligations arising from the European framework.

Among other aspects, the regime for text and data mining (TDM), the Trade Secrets Law, and the impact of the AI Law on the protection of intangible assets were analyzed, emphasizing the need to combine regulation, best practices, and contractual solutions for the responsible use of technology.

Governance of high-risk AI: ECIJA's contribution

The second panel discussion of the meeting, focused on the governance of high-risk AI systems, was moderated by Cristina Villasante, a lawyer specialized in intellectual property and technology at ECIJA, reinforcing the firm's role as a leader in legal advice on artificial intelligence and technological regulatory compliance.

The session addressed the main challenges faced by large organizations in adapting to the AI Law: from creating internal governance structures, system inventories, and risk classification, to monitoring suppliers and integrating AI into existing regulatory compliance, data protection, and internal control frameworks.

The panel highlighted that regulatory anticipation, the use of international standards — such as the future ISO 42001 — and the adoption of best practices are key elements to reconcile innovation and regulatory compliance, avoiding legal and reputational risks.

Prepare today to comply tomorrow

The II Digital Meeting of the ICAM demonstrated that artificial intelligence is already a structural element of professional practice and business strategy. ECIJA's active participation, both in institutional organization and moderating key debates, reinforces its position as a leading firm in digital law, artificial intelligence, and technological regulation, supporting clients and the legal profession in one of the most significant transformation processes in recent years.
