ECIJA is transforming its operating model with the launch of The Garage

The firm is launching a new innovation hub in the centre of Madrid, designed to transform its value proposition for the legal market.

ECIJA has launched The Garage, a new innovation hub designed to transform the way the firm designs, develops and delivers its legal services.

The project marks a new step in the technological transformation strategy initiated by ECIJA with its Full AI Firm model. The initiative goes beyond simply incorporating artificial intelligence tools into legal practice: it aims to redesign processes, automate low-value-added tasks, create new roles and teams, and develop services that combine legal expertise, technology, data and design.

Located at the Glorieta de Rubén Darío in Madrid, The Garage covers more than 700 m² and brings together a multidisciplinary team of over 70 professionals, including lawyers, engineers and consultants. The space has been designed with an industrial aesthetic inspired by old garages and with a philosophy based on collaboration, experimentation and the development of solutions applicable to the business.

The Garage is not a technology showroom, but a space for creating, testing and building. Its aim is to identify clients’ real-world challenges, develop new solutions and turn experimentation into capabilities that can subsequently be scaled up across the ECIJA group, which has 37 offices in 18 countries.

To lead the project, ECIJA has appointed Juan Luis Moreno, a telecommunications engineer with over 25 years’ experience in digital strategy, innovation and business transformation. Moreno has built his career at companies such as Siemens, France Telecom, Lycos and Vocento, and has served as Partner & Managing Director at The Valley.

Among the first initiatives launched by The Garage are the ‘innovation safaris’ – experiences designed to introduce ECIJA’s clients to new technological ecosystems, companies, start-ups and use cases. Major multinationals and IBEX 35 companies have already taken part in these experiences alongside the firm’s teams.

The project also involves exploring new technologies, ranging from generative AI and agent-based systems to automation and artificial intelligence applied to the physical world. In this context, ECIJA has also reached an agreement with Bravo Robots, which specialises in advanced robotics and physical AI.

For Hugo Écija, founder and chairman of ECIJA, “The Garage is another step on our journey to transform ECIJA into a technology platform that provides legal services. An AI-native firm is not defined by the accumulation of tools, but by the integration of artificial intelligence into its operating model: in how it organises knowledge, designs processes, creates products and works with its clients”.

With The Garage, ECIJA is thus moving towards a model in which artificial intelligence and technology form a structural part of the way the firm works, organises itself and builds new solutions for its clients.
