ECIJA, finalist in seven categories at the 11th edition of the Expansión Legal Awards
Today the finalists for the Expansión Legal Awards 2026 have been announced. These awards, organised by Expansión with the technical support of the IE Law School, have established themselves as the main reference in the corporate law sector in Spain.
In this 11th edition, ECIJA has once again been shortlisted in a total of seven categories:
- Lawyer of the Year: Alejandro Touriño, managing partner and CEO of ECIJA
- Best operation of the year, for advising Miguel Ángel Gil and Enrique Cerezo on the acquisition of a majority stake in Atlético de Madrid by Apollo Sports Capital
- Best law firm in Intellectual and Industrial Property
- Best law firm in Technology and Artificial Intelligence
- Best law firm in Sports and Entertainment
- Best Pro Bono Initiative, for the development, in collaboration with IE University and the Segovia prison, of a pioneering offline artificial intelligence system designed to ensure reliable legal information access for inmates, in accordance with the principles of the EU AI Act
- Best International Strategy
"These seven nominations are a reflection of an extraordinary team and a clear strategy. In 2025, we consolidated a solid model that combines legal excellence, proprietary technology, and a genuine commitment to society. The fact that the market recognises this in such diverse categories — from the best operation of the year to the best pro bono initiative — confirms that ECIJA's transformation makes sense and has impact,” commented Alejandro Touriño, managing partner and CEO of ECIJA.
The selection criteria for the elite of the Spanish legal profession take into account various aspects, ranging from total billing and its growth over the last financial year, the operations the candidates participated in during 2025 or their growth rate, to profitability per partner and even their position in international rankings such as Chambers & Partners.
The jury that will decide the winners is made up of experts from the legal sector, secretaries of the boards of directors of IBEX 35 companies, managing partners, and presidents of the largest law firms in the country.
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the end of June.
