ECIJA achieves its best historical result at Chambers Europe 2026: 13 practice areas and 25 individual recognitions in Spain and Portugal
Unquestionable leadership in TMT
In Spain, ECIJA maintains Band 1 – the highest distinction from Chambers – in TMT: Information Technology and TMT: Media, reaffirming its dominance in the technology and digital sector. To these rankings, it adds TMT: Data Protection in Band 2, positioning the firm as the unquestionable leader of the market in technology, media and data protection.
This is not coincidental: the firm's very clients certify it. In the words of one of them, quoted by Chambers: “Really good lawyers; they know how to manage the situation.”
Sustained progress in strategic areas
The 2026 edition reflects solid growth in highly complex areas such as Corporate Compliance and Litigation: Highly Regarded.
The firm also adds two new entries in Spain: Sports and Employment: Highly Regarded, expanding its presence in sectors of growing importance. In total, 5 of the 9 ranked areas in Spain are in Band 1 or Band 2, meaning that more than half of the firm’s portfolio holds elite positions in the market.
Portugal on the rise
In Portugal, ECIJA reinforces its presence with four recognized practice areas. Notably, the inclusion of Corporate Law/Mergers and Acquisitions: Highly Regarded — a new entry this year — joins the consolidated positions in Competition Law/European Law, White-Collar Crimes, and Labour Law.
A highly recognized team
Individually, the 2026 edition includes 25 recognized lawyers in Spain and Portugal, with 3 new entries and 5 promotions. Among the most notable achievements:
Alejandro Touriño has achieved the status of Eminent Practitioner in both TMT: Information Technology and TMT: Data Protection, the highest recognition Chambers awards to practising lawyers, joining Hugo Écija, who has held this distinction in TMT: Media for 20 years.
Librado Loriente Manzanares consolidates his position by moving from the Up & Coming category to Band 3 in Litigation: Highly Regarded.
This edition also includes three new high-profile individual entries: Carlos Martínez Cebrián in Labour Law: Highly Regarded, Daniel López in Data Protection and Miguel Sánchez Ruiz, who debuts directly in Capital Markets: Equity.
A firm with a vision for the future
The results of Chambers Europe 2026 reflect a solid model that is constantly growing, with strong and specialized teams capable of competing at the highest level in all key areas of the market. With a reinforced presence in Spain and Portugal and a rapidly expanding team, ECIJA faces the next cycle with the ambition and resources necessary to continue climbing the rankings.
"These results reflect the rigorous and continuous work of our teams. We continue to grow in the areas where the market needs us most."
