ECIJA has once again been ranked amongst the 20 most innovative law firms in Europe in the 2026 edition of FT Innovative Lawyers Europe, consolidating a decade of uninterrupted presence amongst the organisations leading the transformation of the legal sector across the continent.

In the index compiled by the Financial Times, ECIJA is also ranked amongst the top three firms in the Spanish market, reinforcing its position as one of Europe’s leading firms in legal innovation, technological transformation and new service delivery models.

This achievement comes in a particularly significant year for the firm, which marks ten consecutive years of being recognised by the Financial Times in Europe’s top 20 and once again stands out in various areas of innovation: from the transformation of the firm’s own business model to its advisory work on major technology and infrastructure projects, and the individual leadership of its professionals.

In the words of Alejandro Touriño, CEO of ECIJA:

“Maintaining this level for ten consecutive years, competing with the continent’s leading firms, is no coincidence: it is the result of a culture that has, for years, been committed to transforming the way we understand and deliver legal services.”

“For us, innovation is neither an isolated project nor an exclusively technological matter. It is a way of understanding the firm, of organising our talent, of supporting clients and of anticipating major changes in the economy. This recognition belongs to the whole team that makes this transformation possible every day.”

Innovation in strategy, business and major projects

In the ‘Business of Law: Strategic Direction’ category, the Financial Times has highlighted the evolution of ECIJA’s business model- This recognition highlights ECIJA’s evolution towards an increasingly multidisciplinary and technology-driven model, in which innovation is integrated not only into the provision of client services but also into the firm’s own management and the development and recognition of its professionals.

ECIJA has also been recognised in the Practice of Law: Infrastructure category for its involvement in the financing and legal structuring of a data centre in Portugal involving an investment of 7,000 million euros, one of Europe’s major digital infrastructure projects.

In this project, the firm designed a cross-border corporate structure and participated in developing the solution for connection to the electricity grid alongside the Portuguese national operator, demonstrating ECIJA’s ability to support large-scale projects where infrastructure, energy, investment and technology converge .

Joana Pinto, among the professionals recognised by the Financial Times

ECIJA’s continued presence in FT Innovative Lawyers over the past decade reflects a long-term strategy that has placed technology, artificial intelligence and innovation at the heart of the firm’s model.

In recent years, ECIJA has deepened this transformation through the development of its Full AI Firm strategy, the incorporation of new profiles and disciplines into the legal business, the launch of new solutions and service models, and growing involvement in projects linked to some of the key challenges of the digital economy.
