ECIJA, the law firm that combines its Aragonese roots with the legal practice of the future: the 2026 Cotizar Award for Best Legal Team

The merger with Corp Abogados y Economistas has made Ecija Zaragoza one of the largest law firms in Aragón, with over 50 professionals and nine partners; this growth was recognised with the Best Legal Team Award at the 3rd Cotizar Awards organised by HOY ARAGÓN.

The merging of two approaches to the legal profession has resulted in one of the deals that have shaped the legal landscape in Aragon over the past year. Ecija acquired Corp Abogados y Economistas, a leading law firm in Aragon with a track record spanning almost three decades, to strengthen its presence in the region and expand its capabilities in the field of business law. The result is a firm comprising more than 50 professionals and nine partners, with a turnover of nearly five million euros, positioning Ecija as one of the leading law firms in Aragon. The integration was completed in September 2025 and has enabled Corp’s experience and client portfolio to be added to a firm with a national and international presence.

This growth has been recognised at the 3rd HOY ARAGÓN Cotizar Awards, where Ecija received the award for Best Legal Team. The award specifically recognised this ability to combine knowledge of the Aragonese market, legal specialisation and an international and technological dimension. The award was collected by Alberto Sanjuán, managing partner of Ecija in Zaragoza, who emphasised that he identifies with HOY ARAGÓN due to the trajectory the publication has followed as a business.

Ecija established its presence in Zaragoza in 2018. Seven years on, the integration of Corp has marked a significant step up in scale for the Aragonese office, strengthening areas such as commercial, tax, employment, litigation, insolvency and financial law. At the helm of this new phase is Alberto Sanjuán, previously managing partner of Corp and now managing partner of Ecija Zaragoza, who specialises in litigation, commercial and insolvency law, and has previous experience at Garrigues and Landwell-PwC. The move has also retained the team that was already part of Corp, including professionals such as Cristina Llop and Mayte Royo, thereby preserving the expertise accumulated over many years in the Aragonese market.

The integration has also taken place at a time of strong growth for Ecija. The firm exceeded 100 million euros in global turnover in 2024 and has continued its expansion strategy throughout 2025 by incorporating various firms and professional teams in Spain and other markets. This growth has been underpinned by a specialisation that goes beyond traditional legal advice: Ecija has established itself particularly in areas linked to technology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data protection and innovation, alongside the traditional disciplines of business law.

The other key factor setting Ecija apart is its commitment to technology. The firm has placed innovation at the heart of its strategy and has developed a strong specialisation in technology law and the application of new tools to legal practice, enabling it to establish itself as a firm well-equipped to tackle the changes currently taking place in the legal sector. In Zaragoza, this philosophy has been combined with a team possessing decades of experience in advising Aragonese companies a combination that has enabled the firm to strengthen its position within the region and broaden the scope of the services it provides to its clients.

The Best Legal Team Award at the Cotizar Awards has highlighted precisely this development, recognising the work of a team that has undertaken a major integration process and strengthened Écija’s position in the Aragonese market. Alberto Sanjuán accepted the award on behalf of Ecija at a gala held on 9 September at the Finca de las Hiedras, owned by the El Cachirulo Group, in Zaragoza, which brought together more than 300 representatives from Aragon’s business and institutional sectors.
