Javier Arnaiz is a Cybersecurity Counsel at ECIJA Madrid, and one of those professionals who make technology a more human field. His curiosity led him to bring together two worlds he was passionate about — law and IT — to build a career in which prevention, strategy and empathy go hand in hand.
Right from the start, Javier was clear that he wanted to specialise in technology law. In 2009, a class on IT law changed the course of his career: “Everything will be in the cloud,” he heard, and he decided to commit to that future. Today, after almost a decade at ECIJA, he combines team coordination with digital crisis management, demonstrating that cybersecurity can also be practised with a personal touch.
His work straddles the line between prevention and response. He designs systems that protect businesses and individuals, translates complex regulations into practical solutions, and supports clients when everything is in turmoil. “Sometimes you almost have to be a psychologist,” he jokes, aware that behind every incident there are teams who need calm and guidance.
Javier approaches cybersecurity with passion and purpose. He knows that regulations — NIS2, DORA, GDPR — only make sense if they are applied in the real world. That is why his approach is clear: first understand how each business operates, and then build a coherent, useful and sustainable compliance framework.
Outside work, Javier finds his balance through sport. Every morning begins at the gym—his daily ritual for clearing his mind and starting the day with energy. “Sport keeps me focused; it helps me think more clearly,” he confesses. Within his team, he values trust, communication and continuous learning. Because, as he himself says, “we work with people, not machines”.
