Prevention of occupational hazards in the home

Articles24 November 2025
Employer families must assess risks, train and inform their workers and implement preventive measures by November 2025.

Royal Decree 893/2024 introduces for the first time the prevention of occupational risks in domestic employment, extending to employing families obligations similar to those of any company.

From its entry into force on 12 September 2024, households with domestic staff have until 14 November 2025 to carry out a risk assessment of the job and the home, implement the necessary preventive measures and provide the worker with an informative summary.

The regulation also obliges them to provide protective equipment (such as gloves or non-slip footwear), training and information on the risks and, where appropriate, to offer free voluntary health surveillance. These measures apply to all forms of domestic employment - internal, external or part-time - and non-compliance may be sanctioned.

To facilitate the process, the INSST has made available to families a free online tool that allows them to evaluate the position step by step and generate the required documentation.

With this reform, the Government seeks to dignify and protect domestic work, ensuring that those who care for and maintain households do so in safe and healthy conditions.
