Beware of cyber scams!

In recent months, the National Police and the Guardia Civil have stepped up their warnings about a wave of cyber-scams via phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp and emails. Criminals use stolen databases to launch massive phishing campaigns and other frauds such as false letters from the AEAT, non-existent job offers, fake fines, forged QRs on parking meters or pet sale scams.

Although it is recommended not to interact or provide data, if the scam is completed, the Criminal Code should be used to report it. However, these crimes are difficult to prosecute and require forensic investigation.

In addition, companies and public bodies are also targets of more sophisticated cyber-attacks, including the use of artificial intelligence to clone voices and commit fraud. For this reason, the government announced new cybersecurity obligations in 2025 and the creation of the National Cybersecurity Centre.

The article also cites recent scams such as the case of influencer Amadeo Llados and the collapse of the $LIBRA cryptocurrency in Argentina. Finally, it recalls that the European MiCA Regulation aims to protect cryptoasset investors, although its scope is still limited.
