International Recycling Day

By Carlos del Razo

International Recycling Day is celebrated every year on May 17 with the aim of raising awareness in society about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste to protect the environment. This commemorative day, recognized by UNESCO in 2005, has become a crucial moment to reflect on our consumption habits and take concrete steps to reduce our ecological footprint.

How to Contribute to Recycling:

  • Classify Waste: Sort waste into organic, paper, plastic, glass, and metal categories and place them in the appropriate containers

  • Reduce Plastic Use

  • Reuse and Repair

  • Buy Recycled Products

Despite the progress made, recycling faces several challenges, including the lack of adequate infrastructure in some regions, the low recycling rate of certain materials, and the contamination of recyclable waste. It is essential to continue developing effective public policies, invest in clean technologies, and promote greater environmental education and awareness.

At ECIJA Mexico, we commemorate this date and, through our sustainability practice, support clients and the community in contributing to the improvement and care of the environment by raising awareness through recycling.
