ECIJA launches a division specialising in crypto-asset tax and legal advice
ECIJA continues its ambitious growth strategy with the integration in Spain of CL Cripto, a firm specialised in legal and tax advice in the cryptoassets and blockchain environment. With this transaction, ECIJA launches a new division focused on providing a comprehensive response to the legal and tax challenges of the crypto and web3 ecosystem.
The incorporation of CLCripto, recognised for its technical expertise and pioneering vision in tax law applied to digital assets, reinforces ECIJA's positioning as a leading firm in the digital economy. As part of the move, Jesús Lorente, founder of CLCripto, joins the project and will lead this new specialised area.
In a context marked by the growing regulatory complexity of the crypto environment in Europe and Spain -with regulations such as MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) and the increasing scrutiny of the Tax Agency on the taxation of digital assets-, companies and individuals operating in this ecosystem face new challenges in terms of compliance, tax planning and risk management. In this scenario, the integration of CLCripto seeks to offer legal and tax solutions with a strategic, technical and global vision.
This new division was created with the aim of providing high value-added advice to startups, investors, fund managers and corporations operating in the crypto environment, addressing key issues such as the taxation of cryptoassets, international structures, regulatory compliance, asset tokenisation, DAOs, smart contracts and derivative litigation in a cross-cutting manner.
"The integration of CLCripto reflects our commitment to innovation and our vocation to lead in the most transformative areas of law. The crypto ecosystem is not a passing trend, but a structural shift in the way value is created, transferred and protected. We firmly believe that the future of legal advice lies in a thorough understanding of the new business models based on blockchain and cryptoassets. With this incorporation, we are taking a strategic step to be at the forefront of this change and offer our clients the highest level of legal and tax support in the new digital economy," said Hugo Écija, executive chairman of the firm.
Jesús Lorente, founder of CL Cripto, said: "Joining ECIJA, a firm with undisputed leadership in legal innovation and international presence, allows us to scale our impact and offer a comprehensive service to clients operating in global and highly regulated environments".
With a presence in 18 countries and a team of more than 1,400 professionals, ECIJA consolidates its leadership in legal advice on new technologies, reinforcing its value proposition as a firm of reference for the legal challenges of the digital era.
