Rafael is a partner of ECIJA and a reference in Competition and EU Law, with a solid international background

He has a solid track record in advising companies in multiple sectors, including technology, energy, food and pharmaceuticals, on issues such as merger control, foreign investment, cartels, distribution agreements, abuse of dominance, state aid, litigation, damages claims and compliance programmes. He has participated in transactions and cases of great relevance both at national and international level, forming part of multi-jurisdictional teams and leading the defence of business interests before authorities and judicial bodies.

Prior to joining ECIJA, Rafael worked for 12 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in the Antitrust, Competition and Trade practice, and subsequently headed the Competition and EU Law practice at Deloitte Legal in Spain. In addition, he has a strong academic background and is actively involved in the specialised legal community as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association for the Defence of Competition (AEDC) and Non-Governmental Advisor (NGA) to the Spanish National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) in the International Competition Network (ICN).
