Mike Margáin

With a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Mike Margáin leads the Intellectual Property and TMT practice at ECIJA Mexico. His expertise covers the protection and exploitation of innovation in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, technology, and entertainment, working in both the private and public sectors.

In the private sector, he has been a leading attorney at prestigious law firms in Mexico and Latin America, and served as President of the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI), the Mexican chapter of the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI). In the public sector, he was the Director General of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), where he led its digital transformation, promoted key reforms to the trademark system, and participated in international negotiations, including the USMCA, the EU-Mexico Trade Agreement (TLCUEM), and the CPTPP.

Mike served as Chair of the Intellectual Property Experts Group (IPEG) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum (2013–2018) and as Chair of the Madrid Assembly at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) (2015–2017).
